How We Talk to Computers [Infographic]

The advancements in speech recognition have come a long ways. The thought of being able to control machines or activate commands using voice control are already here. What could technology possibly have in store for us? Could we one day wake up and suddenly control machines to do our everyday chores and run errands? I’d imagine if we did, we’d be just like those fat people on Wall-E, sitting on aircraft chairs and eating a bunch of food, getting fat (which I wouldn’t mind).

This infographic lays out speech recognition for us and the technologies that correlate. We’ve made all these advancements, so what’s next? Take a look at the science below.

A regular guy, doing regular things. Just trying to figure out this thing we use called the Internet. I love graphics, coffee and hip hop. I also love to sleep.

It’s interesting to note how unfocused we’ve been as a society on speech recognition development in machines. Every depiction of the future in science fiction from the 1950s or whatever always had humans conversing with some kind of “master computer”, out loud with their voices (a la the original Star Trek’s “computer” voice).
There was recently a science podcast program I heard about this, I can’t remember the title unfortunately. While voice recognition technology remained somewhat stagnant in recent years, apparently 20 years from now we will be conversing out loud with our kitchen appliances (or a central computer system like in Star Trek)

This was an awesome infographic – props! My brother studied “Computational Lingustics” and so I’m always interested in seeing how this field is changing and developing.

This is awesome. Technology helps a lot in making our life easier and now the dream of talking with the products in our home becomes a reality!

Technology has indeed evolved greatly through the years. Seriously speaking, no matter how many times it has been updated and evolved, it still doesn’t match up with the human intelligence itself. Guess the saying “Human brain is the most powerful” still goes un-busted.
