Social media monitoring tools: Every blogger has been there before. You have a deadline coming up at the end of the day and you need to get a post out but you don’t know what to write. So you decide to cobble together another “how to” guide on a beginner-level topic, knowing your readers will notice and a few will like your blog less for it.

Marketers use social media monitoring tools even more than bloggers. They can be used to see how well an online marketing campaign is doing by looking at what people are saying about that campaign across social media channels.
That is what Newlands uses Alerti for in this episode, but he also uses it to help find things to write about. As a result, social media monitoring tools can be used by both online marketers and bloggers to better understand their audiences/customers and adjust their content/campaigns accordinly.

That looks like a very useful site. How is it different in comparison with opensiteexplorer? I’ve been thinking about getting a pro membership at opensiteexplorer but the pricetag is a bit too high.

I haven’t used social monitoring tools at all yet too be honest I have been slow to use social media at all. I know this sounds silly as to how important it now is. Just haven’t had the time most things are up and running now so I have more time to explore social media and having as many aids in you hands to use is a big bonus.

Everyone uses social media these days. It is second nature to add +1 buttons to websites and people use them without thinking about it much. But monitoring everything social related is still something most people don’t do and that needs to change, thanks for the tips.

There are times really when you need to write for your blog and nothing comes to mind what to write about. I try to check my Google Reader to see the most discussed topic in the blogosphere to help me out. But sometimes, all aspects of the topic has been discussed already. It’s my first time to hear these tools, definitely will try them out.
