I haven’t really seen a decline, but more of a leveling of my earnings in the past year. I had a record month in January ($9,000) but now I’m back to where I was for most of 2010. One of the most effective things I did was add a 728×90 to the header of my fitness website last year. That size seems to really convert well on my site.

I just reached the threshold for the first time this month. I am eagerly awaiting my payment.

I have found that since I moved from Blogger to WordPress (I did this at the beginning of January) that my adsense income has increased. I know there are lots of reasons for this and I am glad that I finally made the switch after 3.5 years with Blogger.

Overall, I seem to be getting the most clicks from search engine traffic and then referrals is second. Direct traffic is the lowest.

In the old days (early 2000s) it was fairly easy to increase AdSense income by creating quality content specific to keyword phrases that have high bid prices. Simply build traffic to those pages and your income would increase.

I was able to increase my income on one site I had from ~$100 a month to ~$400 a month using that strategy. Back then we had the benefit of the Overture Bid Tool. You could use any Google account to get an idea what the bids run for keyword phrases you’re interested in but the most accurate advice would need to come from someone actually bidding on those phrases because the Google estimates are terribly inaccurate.

That should still work today if anything does but it has been many years since I used AdSense.

My AdSense income has been absolutely terrible this month as has my CTR. I am not exactly sure why that might be but thought it might be related to the nicer weather with more people getting outside during the spring since I haven't been through a complete year using AdSense. I also have wondered about the randomness of AdSense earnings.
