Link building is very important to achieving high search engine rankings, and there is hardly any valuable search engine that doesn’t consider link building as a factor for ranking websites. Other method of SEO has been seriously achieved, even though link building is also being abused, there is limitation to how it can be abused and it has been the best method for ranking web pages in the search engines.
To know the importance of link building, some experts even said that as long as the protocol “URL” is still valid and important for the internet to work effectively then links will also be a major factor in achieving high search engine rankings. Below are some tips to consider when starting your link building campaign.
1. Anchor Text
The anchor text is a very important factor in enhancing your link building efforts because it tells the search engines what your website is about. In case you don’t know what an anchor text is, take a look at this online success, you will notice that the linked word is online success while the url is www.dataentryforall.net – The anchor text for this example is “online success”, it is also important to make sure the anchor text you use is the keyword you are interested in ranking for and that it is also relevant to your website.
2. Revelance
The relevance of the website linking to you to that of your website is also a very important factor in link building. It wouldn’t be a good option if all links to your political website is from a business website. Try to get link from closely related websites in your niche.
3. Authority
The authority of the website linking to you is also very important, it wouldn’t be a better option to only acquire links from low quality pages in order not to make your website look like a spam website. Try to make your link acquisition a mix, acquire links from both relevant high quality sites and also mix it up with links from other small websites.
4. Quality content
Writing quality content will automatically get backlinks without you even raising a finger. Try to be clear and unique in your writing, be respectful to your readers and much as possible and your blog post will get as much link as soon as possible.
5. Patience
This is where so many people miss out, I have personally discovered that search engine rankings don’t occur overnight but it can rather take days or even months for you to achieve that high search engine ranking especially if it is a competitive one. Try to wait patiently while building relevant and authoritative links using the right anchor texts and very soon your search engine rankings will skyrocket.
The above are best practices when building links to your website, they are Relevancy, Authority of the website linking and also right usage of anchor text.

I’m really glad you added patience on there. I use a lot of white hat strategies to promote my numerous websites and the key is definitely patience. I’ve started with partners and all of them have lost patience and feel that their efforts have not paid off.

Everybody says this, and it sounds great in theory. What I’ve always wondered is, how do you solve the chicken-and-egg problem with a brand new website? i.e.
1. I build a new website and put lots of quality content on it, hoping to attract links, but…
2. Since I haven’t got any links, I don’t get a high Google ranking – so…
3. Nobody reads my content to find out they would want to link to it, and…
4. I never get any backlinks.

These factors are really important is link building. Linking to relevant pages can improve your rankings much faster. Don’t mind the PR of the page too much because as they grow old they earn PR.
Patience is my favorite. You hear the other tips from other sites, but this is often missed. It can be very frustrating when you have a great idea, you implement it, and have to wait for weeks to see the results. Once you see it, however, it is truly worth it.

I love your hierarchy for link building. relevance is one of the biggest things that I look for in all of my links. Relevance trumps everything else in my book. Then again, I’m not solely after the bakclinks for search engines, I want traffic. Relevant buying traffic. that’s all that matters in this game.

Anchor text – Yes it’s important, even very important, but always remember readers first-search engines second.
Don’t get so wrapped up in keyword stuffing links, that it makes the sentence around it unreadable.

Yes, You are right, anchor text usage is very important, i mean very very important in SEO(I just have to make that mistake to pass my message across). Anytime i write, I consider my readers firs before any other factor including SEO. If you study my blog, you will hardly see me repeating keywords(intentionally) yet I know the importance of keyword density. My readers are the main thing, and I can’t give them rubbish just because of SEO.

I’m not referring to keyword stuffing the entire post, although that’s another good point. I’m referring to keywording the anchor text…while it is important, don’t do it in such a way that the sentence it’s in no longer makes sense.

OK! I now understand what you mean. I am also not getting the exact nuimber of traffic I am supposed to be getting from google(compared to my link building efforts) due to lack of keyword research. I wil have to do effective keyword research so as to tailor my articles towards that.

Luckily I’m in a small niche where a little bit of hard work and dependability can pay off with some of the more influential sites/groups in the same area, and I’m already building relationships offline with them. So reading this was an eye-opener…now I can add “can we swap links?” to my list of questions over coffees, haha.

What i mean is that after you have done enough link building, you will still have to wait for sometime before you begin to see the result, and that it might take days, weeks or even months, It sometimes take years. Just continue link building and very soon(If you are patient enough) you will see results.

Link building is very much important for us. Some people thing that by doing only onpage activities they can win on search engine game, but for me that until we build quality and relevant link we can not get search rank.

I’d like to touch on the last bullet. Having a couple years experience in SEO i can safe with complete certainty that it can take weeks for backlinks to have any effect on SERPs but most often, it can take months!

No I mean search engine rank. Page rank is all about your build your links. Search engine rank is always about keyword brother, but if you mean quality content include placing keywords, keywords density, keywords on first paragraph, etc, I agree with you.

Yes, I understand you, but try searching for the keyword “click here” on Google, you will notice that adobe’s website is number one and there is no “click here” written on that page(just try to check that). So link building is more powerful and effective than keyword density e.t.c. but you have to use the keyword as anchor texts when building links to your site.

I’m confusing, since we build backlink to get at high rank in SERPS but how about google PR? Does it affect Google PR since google PR is kind of relate to backlink

Backlinks is the factor number on on getting a higher PR on Google, and it depends on the quality and type of links your site gets!
Yes! backlinks is the factor to getting high pagerank, try to get more quality backlinks from related sites in your niche and just wait for the pagerank update(4 times a year) and you will see increased pagerank.

I would like to add when creating link building, using bookmarking sites such as Blog Engage, digg and MMO you need to create unique title and descriptions.

Yes! social bookmarking sites are important when trying to acquire links, it might be difficult getting traffic from digg if you don’t have a name yet(I mean in the blogosphere), but MMO social network has sent over 10 visitors to my site a day(even though i get over 250 a day, that 10 is great and it is really encouraging).

When creating anchor texts to distribute out as blog posts, article directory, directory submissions, etc., you should use different variations of that keyword. Like this:
online success
online marketing success
success online
how to be successful online
This would give your link building project a more natural look when getting indexed.
