This is the second video of Blogging Guide video series, I am going to talk about a very simple trick to improve the security of your blog, and make it more harder on hackers to hack your blog administration area, you should do this right after installing your new site because you really don’t want to forget it and expose your blog to be hacked.

It’s a very simple WordPress trick to improve the security of your blog, by following this trick you are giving hackers more headaches and more hard work to do while trying to hack your site.

Make it harder on WordPress Hackers

After installing WordPress new blog, you will notice that your account user name is “admin”, almost all Hackers knows about this, and probably they will try to hack your account using the user name “admin” as a first try thinking that you didn’t change it, this makes their job more easier because they know your user name which means 50% of information they actually need to hack your site.

Improve the security of your blog

You will notice that you can not change your user name from your account, and probably you don’t want to change it in a complicated way by editing your database record where your user name and password are saved! So this trick is going to help you changing your admin user name to another user name that no body knows in a very easy way to improve security of your blog, watch the video.

Blogging Guide video series

This is the tips 5, 6, and 30 that can be found on my 43 Blogger Tips – What you should do after installing WordPress, don’t forget to watch my other Blogging Guide video series and other tips & tricks that you should do after installing your new WordPress blog.

Backing up the database on a regular basic is the best solution ! My hosting provider’s server was hacked and it took one day to recover. All my data was lost but since I had a backup of the database so I managed to restore my blog :)

You are in the minority for taking backups! I wish others would read your comment and take note. The majority think this sort of thing won’t happen to them and ignore the fact that taking backups is crucial.

Thanks for sharing.

Hilarious! People just drop random comments to blogs only to get links. “Who cares to read the post…”
BTW thanks for the tutorial Andrew. Hackers are ruthless. I also use wordpress platform for both sites and I have to increase the security.

Yes, you can do that, Dennis but if it it generated by your hsoting company – still change it. I have heard of instances when login names supplied by hosting companies can be found out.
