The first video in the new series of Google webmasters videos is about how PageRank flows from Twitter and Facebook in Google web search rankings. I recommend you follow @googlewmc on Twitter (that’s the official account for Google Webmaster Central) So when new webmaster videos come out you will be the first to know. I have just got this news from Matt Cutts blog.

Links from facebook and twitter are great for SEO, but not because they pass page rank, instead, the amount of tweets, shares and likes define your site’s social authority.

Hesham,
Those Google videos are very helpful, I need to go back and watch more of them. This video was interesting. I never thought about facebook and links being set to private. I keep my page set to private because its mostly used for my private life. So my links are arent being crawled on that site.
As for Twitter it makes sense to be nofollow, but do not think spammers care much care they still post to much junk on there

Yes! when you set the page to private you will only get traffic from your friends or when someone share with his/her friends! but it’s not crawled by search engines.
Spammers will never stop because they are trying to get traffic from Twitter!
I have watched so many of Matt’s videos, they are very useful!

Those Google Webmaster Tools videos are very cool and helpful, though I still take what Matt says with caution
