There may be many reasons you may want to have your own Search Engine these could be from wanting to be able to allow your blogs readers to have a search of your site with your settings or even you may want to have your own custom search engine that will search a collection of sites of your choice.
As an example, I have both on my blog and one the “Bloggers Search Engine” uses a list of DoFollow and CommentLuv blogs that I am building up and adding over time.
One option for creating your search engine is to utilize the Google Custom Search Engine, not only will this allow you to create your search engine but it will also combine with your Google AdSense, so earning you a little from your new engine.
Setting up a Search Engine this way is quite simple, once you have signed in with your Google details; you are ready to build your new search engine.
How To Build Your Own Custom Search Engine?
- Create your Search Engine and give it a name, description and the sites you wish to search (these can be edited later).
- In your control panel you can now add or remove sites when you wish, simply by adding the address of the chosen site.
- Change the look and feel of your new engine and preview it.
- Add the code to your website/blog and there you go.
Most of the instructions for updating your new Search Engine are very simple to use, an option which I would recommend using is the option of “Make Money” this will connect your AdSense account to you engine, giving you the possibility of making a little extra on the side from Google Ads on the search Engine results. It won’t make you mega rich, but every little helps.
So, if you want to build your own Search Engine then this is certainly a good method of doing it, it certainly works on my blog and fits in seamlessly with the pages etc.

Google definitely makes having your own search engine a breeze, but the problem is that when you create your own custom search engine that way, the only results will be the pages on your site that Google has indexed, not all of the pages on your site. But hey, it’s better than nothing! lol

It’s easy to make a search engine with Google custom search. You’re a bit limited though in integrating it into your website, at least for the free version. I run a search engine, Secret Search Engine Labs, and during my research I’ve collected a huge list of search engine software you can use to make your own search engine. There’s both free and super expensive, easy and complicated, those that can index up to a thousand pages and those that can index billions of pages.

What an interesting idea! And why not – isn’t a site search just a mini version of this? I’ll have to give this a try. Thanks, Karen.

Your custom one is good since we can search for a specific keyword and do some backlinking to our current posts with the same keywords. I guess I’ll just use yours hee hee

Awesome. I have built custom search engines in virtually all my blogs and have tied this with AdSense. Believe it or not, there are always people who use that box and it is great, because you can put all of your blog network in one place and users can find first within your network and then Google:)

It’s handy if you would like to create a search engine that only has a list of websites of your choice, such as a DoFollow only search engine, such as mine that has a list of DoFollow blogs to search through.
