In the book ‘Hannibal’ by Thomas Harris, one reason why Hannibal Lecter doesn’t loose his mind when he’s in a tight spot is because he uses a thinking technique called ‘The Method of Loci ‘(no, this has nothing to do with going loco). Loci is Latin plural for places.

According to the theory, you can give each memory or idea you have a “place and a face” so that you can build a palace for your memories and thoughts.

If we were anything like Hannibal Lecter -god forbid- we could wander through our palace of thoughts and memories and relive the feelings we had when we first experienced them.

The sad fact however, is that from all the brilliant plans we have, roughly 80% of them end up in a far corner of your brain never to be thought of again.

Why Are Our Thoughts Such  Chaos?

Speaking for myself, I can well imagine that I’m not alone when I say I sometimes have a hard time getting my thoughts together.

The main reason for this is that our brain works in associative ways. It links thoughts and ideas to everything we see, hear and feel.

Since most of us can’t shut our senses off, it’s inevitable that our mind creates a melee of ideas we could easily get drowned in.

To protect us from going instantly mad, the brain gives these thoughts a place by default. Some places are obvious and easy to access, but some thoughts get hidden in some dark corner of your memory and are hard to retrieve.

For example - you just had a great idea a minute ago and now it somehow doesn’t come to mind. Ring a bell?

Another reason is that many people are not trained to think in a disciplined pattern.This can be taught in school or drilled into your mind by a drill sergeant, but not all people are receptive to these methods. The mind works in curious ways.

How To Build Your Own Palace of Brilliant Plans

You will have to adopt a new thinking/brainstorming pattern. This is something that grows over time and is only possible through practice, repetition and perfection.

Start with writing your thoughts down. This is nothing new. we all do brainstorming sessions and write down anything that comes to mind.

The problem with just jolting down ideas on a piece of paper is that it doesn’t bring you order. It sometimes even makes things more confusing.

The Solution Is Creating A Mind Map

A Mind Map is a diagram that depicts thoughts, ideas, memories and tasks all linked to a central topic. So if you’re planning a vacation, you surround your central topic ‘vacation’ by subtopics like ‘destination’ or ‘means of transport.’

The big difference between a mind map and a top to bottom list of ideas is that a mind map isn’t linear. It is more of a 3D way to write down thoughts, and therefore gives you more space for new thoughts.

The problem with a linear way is that when you get a new idea, you have to scroll up and down a page to find the right place to insert it. This can get quite chaotic.

A Mind Map, however, gives you a better overview, as the basis of your brainstorm is centered in the middle and the surrounding thoughts are within view. This not only helps you place a thought, it also makes it easier to retrieve ideas.

Another advantage is that mind mapping allows you to be chaotic, and, therefore, you can be more creative.

How To Create A Mind Map:

• Write your general topic for your post, business plan, or whatever project you may want to start in the middle of a piece of paper.
• Start brainstorming and just write down anything that comes to mind around your central topic description.
• Now start brainstorming the subtopics and circle them. You now have a rough outline for your plan, and you can really let your mind storm free without being limited by the boundaries of a subtopic.
• Just look at your map, and thoughts will come without making a real effort. Try it.

Uses for Mind Maps

You can use a mind map to create an outline for articles, a new site, (e)books or your own product. And your quest for world domination..

As soon as you have created an outline you’re satisfied with, all you have to do is fill out the blanks.

This allows you to think in a more focused, targeted way, saving you a boatload of time in the process.

Tips To Improve  Mind Mapping

Time Your Brainstorm

Set your timer to ten minutes, no more, no less. Do a brainstorm. Stop when the time’s up. It generally works well if you set yourself a time limit for being creative. People tend to be more focused when their time is limited.

Do your brainstorming in the early morning

This is (hangovers excluded) the part of the day when you think clearest. Provided you slept the night through

Try doing your typing/ writing standing up.

I read about this in a blog comment recently and decided to try it. Apparently the mind stays more focused when you are standing up.

Although my legs got tired, my mind did stay focused, and I got a lot of work done in one go.

Use Mind Mapping Software

There’s plenty of mind mapping software out there. Some is ridiculously expensive and really business orientated. I can’t judge it though, since I haven’t bought it.

There is Free Mind , open source niftyness in its purest form. You can download it for free and start playing with it.

As soon as I started to work with Free Mind,  my productiveness reached an all time high .

Mind Mapping puts your projects back into perspective and helps you prioritize your action, thus making it easier to make decisions.

What’s your experience with Mind Maps?

To cut a long story short a young friend developed a brain tumour – and wanting to understand what could cause such a terrible thing to happen …. I googled.

The information that I came across about the use of both aspartame and sodium fluoride in our everyday lives was, to say the very least, quite shocking.

Let me tell more about what I have found!

Aspartame

Maybe you’ve heard of aspartame , maybe you haven’t. It’s an artificial sweetener that’s found in over 6,000 products. Most people, and probably you, consume quite a bit of it most days. You’ll find it in diet drinks, chewing gum and yoghurts for example.

So what’s the problem? Well, aspartame may taste very sweet but a lot of people believe that it causes a whole range of diseases including brain cancer. If you don’t already know about the controversy, I really suggest that you watch the first two videos in the side bar by Alex Jones – and then follow some of the links in the current aspartame twitter stream to start informing yourself even more about this topic.

Sodium Fluoride

Maybe you’ve heard of sodium fluoride, maybe you haven’t. It’s used in most toothpaste brands and often added to water supplies – supposedly because it has a positive effect on dental health.

So what’s the problem? Well, many people cast doubts about the validity of this claim – and also point out that sodium fluoride is a poison. If you don’t already know about the controversy, I really suggest that you watch the third video in the side bar – and then follow some of the links in the current fluoride twitter stream to start informing yourself even more about this topic.

The Truth

What is the truth? That’s the question. The ideal situation, of course, would be that people came forward with evidence that completely discredits the information presented both here and on sites such as dorway.com and farmwars.info. Unfortunately real hard evidence seems hard to find – and in its absence there seems to be good reason to inform as many people as possible about the controversy surrounding these issues. Don’t you think?

A Million Votes

Well, I really am hoping to get a few famous bloggers comments here – and am also very interested to see how this new campaign will be received by the internet community at large.

My own opinion is that

(a) there are serious doubts about the safety of both aspartame and sodium fluoride
(b) large numbers of people are already genuinely concerned about their health implications
(c) people everywhere have the right to – and should – know about these issues
(d) a large scale poll is achievable through the power of blogs and social networks &
(e) the results of such a poll can only be beneficial ( whatever the outcome )

What’s your opinion?

Are these important issues that need addressing?
Or am I over-reacting to unreliable information & the loss of a fine & funny friend?
Please telll me straight!

But if you do agree that a large scale poll is a good idea, just put your best brilliant blogging brain into action, suggest sensational strategies – and spread the word. A million is a small number when compared to the 7 billion (or so) on earth according to the United Nations.

And we all deserve to know exactly what we’re eating and drinking, don’t we?

I had a great experience with CommentLuv plugin since I started to use it on my blogs,  it was the reason I discovered the real benefit of using WordPress default comment system for SEO.

I am pretty happy with it, and still try to find enough time to do more article marketing during the coming a few weeks.

I haven’t talk about this before, probably because the very busy month we was having. We have added some styling to ComentLuv Info Panel, and we were lucky enough to add it to the new version of the plugin Thanks to Andy @CommentLuv for the upgrade, and it’s even much more easier now to create your own style of CommentLuv info panel if you have some CSS knowledge.

It’s very exiting, and if you know me well, then you know that I always to discover new techniques and implement them LIVE on this blog and see the REAL reaction of our blog visitors, that’s what gives me the ability to tell an exciting and true story each time I blog!

So, I am going today to share with you not only one list building plugin, but I have more interesting experiment to share about:

But first, I want to let you know that I am using Aweber, a cool mailing list service that everybody knows about it! Check it out! And give it a try for only one dollar for the first month! I am sure you will not let it go!

Call it Shady ways! Who Cares?

I usually don’t hide anything, simply because I don’t have anything to hide! An I almost share everything I am learning and it’s part of my own experience, and probably this is why my blog readers never stop coming back unless someone is taking it personal lol!

I am using a very nice and simple plugin called Aweber WordPress Plugin, it connect two sensitive parts of your blog to your email list directly, these parts are your:

• Registration form
• Comment form

So, basically the Aweber WordPress Plugin allows you to automatically send an invitation and subscribe new members when they register to your blog, or add a new comment, this is very useful for blogs that open for guest blogging, as you might want to subscribe all your guest bloggers as you need a fast way to let them know about your blog news and updates, so there is no problem with that at all, just go a head and require them to subscribe with no worries, everybody is happy!

But, talking about enabling the plugin in your comment section is a little dangerous thing, because you can tick the check-box in the plugin features to subscribe everyone comment on your blog (this is what I did) and most of your blog commenters will actually not read, not even notice what the heck you put under your comment form, and because people are “too lazy to read” then problems happen, and some will complain about that, specially if you are trying to sell something for them, this will annoy the majority of your subscribers! They will just forget your goods and remember the bads, well.. this is how people are!

So, let me share with you what I got by using this list building technique, you can see the results from my Aweber account, I have got 441 subscribers in only 2 months, and with no work at all more than enabling the Aweber WordPress Plugin:

Someone might call it a “shady technique”, I must say that this technique works just fine if you use it on the right time, but probably in the long term it’s not the best way, as you can get into a mail list problems that you really don’t need!

Plz, put in mind that I am experimenting these techniques live, jut like anything thing else I am experimenting to find out the right way to do things by my own, and my main reason is to develop new ideas for my blog to write about, and share with you what’s really working by approve it to you!

I was expecting more feedback and maybe some bloody reaction, but I was shocked because this technique seems to be working! I actually got one single feedback and 2 complains out of 401 subscribers! But because I really care and it’s my main target to create a safe place, I won’t bother my readers, and this is why I didn’t use this list in a serious way! I am going only to send one single email to let them know that I am closing this list for ever!

Don’t Try this Technique at Home!

Put in your mind that my case could be different than yours, I know my blog authority and I am sure I am not hurting my blog or reputation! but I am not sure about you!

So.. from my own experience, no one will recommend it and I also don’t recommend it! And this is why I un-ticked the check-box and give people more freedom to choose whither they want to subscribe or not! (I have done this based on feedback from the community)

What makes FB so special to me in term of guest posting is the type and quality of traffic I get from guest posting on FB. Even months I haven’t submitted a guest post, I still see FB on my list of top referrers with over 60 visitors to my blog. I can also track lots of increase in comments and interaction to my guest post on FB. Who does not want this type of traffic?

What Is Forum Posting?

Forum posting is the process of commenting on or creating new discussions (threads) on forums to get backlinks. That is what it originally was used for, anyway. You get backlinks from the links at the end of your posts called signature links. Forum posting is very easy.

Does Forum Posting Bring Direct Traffic?

Yes, it does. But only if you are posting on a popular forum that is relevant to your website. Your signature links will only be attractive to users if they are interested – They will only be interested if your signature  if the topic is relevant to the topic of the forum. This means if you want to get results with forum posting, you shouldn’t put a furniture link on a webmaster forum. Although some people using the forum might be interested, most of them won’t even see your link.

Does Forum Posting Bring Backlinks?

Yes it does. Obviously, you will get links from forum posting. How effective these links are is a completely different question. Links from forum posting are virtually worthless. Google knows how easy posting on forums is and that they are not links that the owner of the forum puts because he/she likes your site. In addition, forums are seriously SEO handicapped – Dirty URLs, duplicate content, 50 outgoing links per page, etc.

And…?

Forum posting doesn’t help you bring search engine traffic. Meaning that the backlinks you get really don’t matter. However, you do get traffic from forum posting, and this is important to note. To succeed in getting traffic from forum posting, you should be an active member on a popular forum that is related to your website.
