5 Reasons Why Blogging is the Best Industry Ever

5 Reasons Why Blogging is the Best Industry Ever

by on May 3, 2010 · 33 comments

Unless you’re living in a cave or somewhere else, you probably have noticed the growth of blogging over the past few years. In fact, whats amazing is that blogging continues to grow despite the fact that people are starting to realize blogging isnt really a get-rich quick scheme. With that in mind, people realized maybe making money from blogging isn’t for everyone.  Especially with recession last year, a lot of advertising money have pulled off the internet and a lot of people expected blogging to show some decline.

Long story short, blogging hasn’t decline. It has grown so much that the industry is so big now w/c leads me to a realization that people are starting to realize blogging is more than just a platform to make money. With that in mind I have compiled here some interesting reasons why blogging has experienced so much growth over the last couple of years. And why blogging is the best industry ever.

1. Bloggers Are Friendly in Nature

Since I started, it still continually amazes me how bloggers are naturally very friendly with other bloggers. Unlike in other industry, bloggers treat other bloggers as peers even though they are competing with each other.

I’ve had a couple of experience wherein I was able to really form friendship with other bloggers just for how we were helping each other. As I said, I don’t think there’s any place where people are as friendly as bloggers.

2. Blogging Builds Your Online Portfolio

Believe me or not but when you apply for a job, the company would likely always do a Google search for your complete name. And by having a blog, you’re already building your credibility and reputation. The search results from search engines reflect who you really are so make sure you work on it. After all isn’t amazing to see yourself on Google for all the positive reputations?

3. Blogging Helps You Spread your Expertise

My very first blog was a basketball blog and ever since I was a kid, I always thought that I make good basketball analysis. That being said, creating that blog helped me expressed my thoughts and criticisms but at the same time it really leveraged my expertise on that field which helped a lot.

You see other people who gained the “Guru” status simply for having an established blog and I’m sure that has way more benefits than just making money from advertising.

4. Because of Blogging, You Learn A LOT of things

When I was just getting started, I was thinking that blogging is all about writing blog posts (Im sure you think of that as well initially) and I was surprised that I need to learn a lot of things to push this through. Because of that I’ve learned some server administration skills, php and css coding and almost all technical stuffs that one needs in running a website or blog.

I guess you never thought of that as well when youre just getting started right? ;-)

5. Blogging Simply Puts You in Business

Ok, blogging itself is not a business but its an integral part in running an online business. Its probably the best communication channel that you could use in leveraging whatever you have. A blog is also a very powerful marketing weapon that you could really use to strive for more. And speaking of marketing, who thought we’re going into that function as well?  That was all brought because we’re blogging.

There ya go! Im sure I still missed a lot of things here but my main point in writing this post is that blogging is so diverse. It’s arguably the best industry to be in and I think I enjoyed doing it so much that I would still continue doing it even without any compensation. But of course that last statement is arguable. ;-)

5 great points, and having read all of the comments, would it be OK to add a 6th (or perhaps a 1(a) because it’s linked to your first point?

6. Friendly bloggers share their insights in the Comments section, so readers can learn even more.

For me, blogging is more about sharing ideas, learning and co-operating.

If some people make money by selling or recommending products or e-books that help others, then, as we say in Ireland, “more power to their elbow”. It’s not the reason most of us visit blogs, though – it’s to read great posts and all the comments!

Agreed! But, that must be considered is the content of the comment itself. What is relevant or not ;)

HI,
I think blogging is one of the best thing ever i have seen and i just love it. I like to give comments on my favorite posts. So i think there are lots of other possible reasons are also available here for which blogging is one of the best industry ever. The main point is clear blogging gives a chance to enhance our knowledge through various blogs and websites on different topics.
Thanks!

You know Melvin, I couldn’t agree with you even more. Blogging really isn’t a get rich quick scheme and looking at how Google’s rankings strategies (the way in how they rank sites these days) gets even more difficult with each month lapsing, I guess it’s only going to be about a few percentages of people that’s going to succeed in doing at what they’re loving.

Hi Melvin,

This is really a great post, I couldn’t agree more.

Blogging helps you build your expertise and you have a nice observation, most bloggers are very friendly to each other.

Thanks for the great post,

Yep, blogging is the THE way to build your personal brand nowadays. Social media can be a giant waste of time, a personal site is too static – blogging is the way forward. Thanks for sharing Melvin!

There are tons of advantage of blogging and I’m sure you can list out more than that Melvin. But what you list out are very true and especially point #4, after I started blogging 2 years ago, my English improves a lot.

Great post Melvin.

I totally agree with your points. First of all, blogging hasn’t declined indeed with the economic crisis, on the contrary, alot of people who lost their jobs have proven to be good (earning) bloggers.
I also agree on the “you learn new things from blogging” :-)

You made an interesting point at the beginning about how “one might think” that blogging might decline with online advertising budgets being cut, but in reality that didn’t happen. I have never thought of advertising on my site, and I can’t imagine making money from it via ads. I believe the financial benefits (for most people) stem from people wanting to do business with them and/or hire them due to the knowledge they have or personality they’ve shown. And that never fades, no matter what the economic situation is!

Great post – thanks!

Nice point Sarah. And in that way you get more financial stability as well considering its more of a real world business rather than just advertisement-based monetization tactic which is more of a hit and miss I guess.

I whole heartily agree.

I’ve always wanted to teach because my mother was a teacher long ago. I always found myself tutoring people whenever I had the chance. Blogging has allowed me to transition this to a mass audience.

I love the connections and relationships I’ve built with people. You can always expect great vibes from other bloggers. I love bouncing around ideas with other designers and bloggers, they’ve always been very helpful.

Whenever you can, give back to the community. People will take note (maybe not right away) but they always seem to return the love <3

That is so true Murlu. I always appreciate when someone emails me and says “thank you”. Not just that, a simple retweet or a simple comment is a simple yet a powerful way of giving back and I’d always tell my readers I appreciate those.

Anyways good luck with your transition. ;-)

Blogging is also very enjoyable. Connecting with other people over information is really great, but I think it’s most important that you establish a certain expertise for potential clients using blogging, especially if you’re a consultant like me.

That is something that Im planning for the near future. For me establishing expertise is the highest benefit of blogging. A lot of bloggers don’t sport any ads on their blogs nor do they sell stuffs, instead they take on private clients which is much more lucrative and I guess fulfilling.

I don’t put any ads on my blog, which is just a side to my business. I think this is the best way to go if you’re main goal online is make money using a business, not a blog.

Yes Melvin from my last one and half year of blogging experience I can say that a blogger have very vast knowledge than one SEO or SMO executive. Blogger have to handle all things like content, SEO, blog designing, social media and it is very hard to handle all things together.
