Hi Andrew,

Nice post!It just so happened that I was overhauling my self-hosted wordpress, thanks for the tips! I’ve forgotten to set up my nested comments so I’m going to activate it as soon as my domain is 100% good to go. Thanks again!

I installed

1. All in one seo
2. DigDig
3. CommentLuv
4. YARPP

I’d like to refer YARPP for the new bloggers if they are not yet. Its a great way to build inward links and reduce bounce rate!

My recommendations is that you do not always have to to the nested comments in the WordPress admin panel. This is because there are some themes are not done correctly and do not allow for threaded comments. And sometimes even the threaded comments plugins available do not work correctly without a bit of fighting with.

If you have already set it up in your functions.php of your theme, you should be okay and be able to bypass this. Some themes come with it this function, but for others. I will be providing a Nested comments addition to my WPAddict site as a tutorial very soon.

I think if the theme doesn’t have nested commenets then you can easily add it via the WP Threaded Comments Plugin.

Woo hoo, I was excited that I had done all of these things already – but not right after I installed WordPress – it was brought to my attention by other bloggers. These are very important things – especially threaded comments – if you plan on having comments on your website.

I’d add, adding these plugins after installing:
* All In One SEO Pack
* Tweet Me Me Retweet
* AddToAny: Share/Bookmark/Email Button (or another Share plugin)
* Comment Luv
* and as a drum roll, if you know how to code in PHP and are familiar with WordPress, PHP Execution allows you to write code directly in your posts and pages to do some really cool things :)

These are great tips. Thank you for sharing them…
Using nested comments is a great way to keep everything organized. Thank you for showing how to set it all up.
So many people fail to realize how the images on their site will help or hurt the overall effect that people find. You want something that grabs people’s attention but is not too distracting.
