So You Want To Be A Blog Rockstar?

blog-rockstar

There are people who will always stand above others when it comes to blogging. These people are not always savvy in web design, but they have something to say that is valuable to the Internet masses.

A lot of times these people will blog without ever expecting anything regardless if they do have a business online. They also know how to influence people.

Those people are called Blog Rockstars.

What does it take to be a blog rockstar?

It may seem difficult become influential in a niche where there are many people competing to be the number one website where people will visit, read, and apply what they have read wherever they are – online or offline. The problem is that people are thinking too much about it. That is why so many people confuse social media and social networking. By the way, social media is a marketing tool, not a website where people can interact. Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and such are social networks. When a person puts their posts out on the social network streams, they are applying a type of social media technique. That post is advertising itself and practically saying “Here I am! Come read me!”

Here are a few tips in becoming a blog rockstar:

Be honest

No one likes people who are fake. Even if you go by a nickname, be true to yourself. Make sure you create a solid brand behind yourself so you will be unforgettable.

Be knowledgeable on your topics

You cannot run a successful site if your content only tells half the story. Cover as much as you can. However, if a topic is too long, break it up into smaller sections. Each part of the blog post your originally wrote can be posted in a separate entry. It makes visitors look forward to more if they were interested in the first part of the article.

Be unique

There are millions of websites on the Internet. There are millions of people that surf around daily. It is no use having a website if you cannot provide something that gives a little something different than the rest of the web pages in your niche.

Be open to conversation

Your visitors leave comments for a reason. Be willing to reply whether you agree or not. If your visitor has a website, visit them and leave a comment. This allows them the same opportunity to get feedback.

Have a well designed web site

Whether you design it or have a professional do it for you, it is important that if you want a successful site, you will have to have one that is not just aesthetically appealing, but also efficient to navigate.

Offer something for free

Be willing to sometimes offer something without having to get something in return. Even if your site only offers advice, you are offering something to your readers. Your articles will allow people to find the information they are interested in and you will be seen as an expert by your readers.

Be willing to work

Your site will not build itself. You will have to write everything, and also promote it. Remember, You are not guaranteed that you will have the same amount visitors everyday. A site’s traffic is always fluctuating. If you want more traffic, you will need to find ways to make it happen.

Do you know anyone that you think is a blog rockstar?

Is there any other advice you would recommend to anyone looking to become a blog rockstar?

Hi Nile,

Great article.

While I’m waiting on my my leather pants to be delivered, are there any technologies you’d recommend to get a jump start on getting blogs into people’s browsers? I’ve heard of things like Technorati, Digg and Delicious but I really don’t know where to start with these.

What I’m getting at is – once I get my writing and design up to scratch, how can I ensure that I’m not just blogging to my parents?

Thanks

Andy

Yes, when you write, submit your articles to Digg, Delicious, your Facebook account, Twitter. Technorati helps you list your blog.

I will go into this more on another topic. I know I discuss it a bit at Blondish.net, but I can always write another post here. So stay tuned this week as I will have another post out on Famous Bloggers about this. :)

I am not the owner, just a part of the Famous Bloggers team. You can list credit, but it might be better to write your own article on what you have learned and put in a link to this article so your readers can look at it if they like. :)

I think these are all important points when it comes to wanting to be a blog rockstar. I think being unique is the most important of those. But also creating conversations is a great way to get where you want to be.

Yes, encouraging conversation is definitely big. If your site does not look welcoming to posting comments, then you might want to look at your article and think on ways you can end the topic with a question. This leaves it open for visitors to decide whether or not they want to comment.

Great post Niles. I really recommend reading other blogs in your niche and leave “smart comments”, as I mentioned in one of my post, in order to get your blog and name out there.

You’re right, blogging ain’t easy, but I enjoy doing it….so i don’t mind :)

Amen to that Dennis! I cannot express it enough. Being in the blog community for over 7 years, I have seen a lot of people end up turning away from sites or following certain people because that person changed drastically and damaged their reputation. It is important whether you stand behind a nickname or your actual name to make sure you are always forthcoming. Nile is actually my nickname and has been since I was a teen (well over half of my life.) I state on my own website my birth name because I believe it is important that I am honest with my readers.

I think a blog rockstar should have passion, because without that you cannot succeed. I think being knowledgable is really important, because you have to back up your posts with solid points that make a direct impact on the readers. Other than that it’s totally depends on initiative

Definitely passion is a big thing. It does not have to be for writing a blog entry, but it has to be about what you do in your own niche. People read and can feel your passion through your words.

Good points, I guess. But the blogs I usually frequent are art/design blogs, where talent that makes you stand out matters a lot. So I tend to think of the “power bloggers” as those who have a lot to offer to their readers because they’re so talented, and that’s why they get (and deserve) that big readership. I think it matters immensely that your site is well-designed, too.

You can have talent, but there are people that are talented that are unable to explain the process that they go through in their art. For those who can make it easy for those who are beginners, that is a huge talent in my book. I usually challenge a lot of artists to try to write for the normal person. It is okay to introduce terminology, and demonstrating with elaborate tutorials.

I think it boils down to how it is presented. Can you be influenced by another person’s work? – YES! :)

These are great tips – Being unique is probably the best advice. Developing a voice and writing style that is engaging is key. I often get caught reading something merely because the writer’s style drew me in and kept me spellbound until the end. On top of that add your own personal experiences to the mix and you’ll be on your way to stardom.

Definitely! I have a better time recommending bloggers in my own niche when they can display the initiative to introduce quality content, especially unique. I like to see how someone has experienced something and used it. In fact, anyone that has gone through an interview for a job in the past 5 years alone may note that employers are actually asking for live scenarios so they can get a grasp on how knowledgeable their interviewee is about the job.

You do not have to be a blogger to become a fan of a blogger. Some people just stop by and read. So… it would be both.

A blog rockstar is usually one in the same as someone who influences a lot of people.

Truly love the point about being honest. Too many people want to hide behind the facelessness of the internet. But the fact still remains that you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can not fool all the people all the time!

Thanks for sharing. I’m surely heading for blog stardom!

There are a lot of people who still like to remain as anonymous bloggers. This is usually due to the fact they are uncomfortable with people wanting to know a lot about their personal life. There have been controversial bloggers that have even lost their jobs because of what they have written. A lot of workplaces are cracking down on employees who blog and social network.

For those in the United States, it is important to brush up on knowledge of what you can and can not say about your work in public.

I agree with that to make a blog successful , one have to good knowledge about the subject which one is writing about, the web page should be well designed and attractive and may I add that it should have a logo so that it creates a distinct image in the minds of the customers . Having a logo will increase the traffic on your website . Finally i feel that patience and persistence will make the blog successful

Branding is a big issue these days. Some logos only need to be simple to get the point across. Others are extravagant. However, they both play the same tune.

Some of the biggest brands have even revamped some of their logos in the past few years because of the increased awareness of how effective proper branding can be. :)

While I can agree that it does not always require that you post once in a while, you should update with fresh content at least twice a month so your readers know what is going on and keep coming back because you still have their interest. This is where you go out and learn, and even share your thoughts about view’s on other conversations in the blogging community. It is all about keeping the communication flowing. :D
