That's right! building relation with the traffic is the key... i believe the best way i think to get the comment is obviously 1st Great content that people like and then gain some traffic but in order to get comments on the blog you should go to their blogs and common on their stuff and people will automatically come to your blog and common... obviously this is not the only thing how you get comments but this is one of the vital things... If you look at my posts my first few monts,lol they are garbage man. But the only way to get better is to keep writing, and like you said, find what works, then do that . Sometimes I get the feeling my content isnt good enough, but im also new to blogging, a lot to learn still and trying different things out to see what works and what does not. Im doing my best to keep my Web Analytics Page closed, because I tend to check it pretty often. I guess I just need to keep writing and thinking of ways to promote my blog and it will come eventually, I just need to be more patient.
